Monday 3rd October 2016

After the surprise of the 5 Canada Geese last week, today surprised again as 3 Mute Swans flew over, which are also the first I have seen here. Also around today were ten Jackdaws which were mobbing a single Sparrowhawk which was circling.

Tuesday 27th September 2016

This morning, from the safety of the dining room, I saw 5 Canada Geese flying north over the house, calling loudly. It was the call that alerted me to them, for without it they would have passed over unnoticed. It is the first time I have seen this species in Crowborough.

Wednesday 27th July 2016

Today I saw my first garden Sparrowhawk, which scythed over, scaring all of the smaller birds, and the Jackdaws rose to the occasion mobbing it in large numbers.

Wednesday 20th July 2016

I had my first Meadow Pipit today at the Walshes area of Crowborough, which flew up quickly from under my feet as I walked along through rough grassland.

Saturday 16th July 2016

There were 20 Stock Doves, along with the regular 5 Swallows, at the Walshes area of Crowborough. There was very little else of note.

Tuesday 14th June 2016

Today I saw 3 Swallows over the playing fields up at the head of Poundfield Road. They were the first I have seen this year so far.

Tuesday 12th April 2016

I did quite a bit of birdwatching in my garden today, and the totals were as follows:

House Sparrow (5)
Blue Tit (3)
Woodpigeon (2)
Collared Dove (3)
Robin (2)
Blackbird (2)
Song Thrush (1)
Goldcrest (1)
Magpie (2)
Jackdaw (10)
Carrion Crow (2)
Wren (1)

Monday 4th April 2016

A Dunnock seen this morning was the first I have ever seen in the garden, feeidng around the base of the lilac along with maybe 5 or 6 House Sparrows. Caused a brief bit of excitement there!

Thursday 31st March 2016

Today I had another Wren in the garden, being my 2nd only here, and probably only the 2nd I have seen since I began birding.

Friday 11th March 2016

Today I saw my first ever Bullfinches, a pair in the woodlands on Green Lane, which showed reasonably well in a clearing, clearly preferring a certain bush which contained berries.

Thursday 3rd March 2016

Today I saw four House Sparrows in the garden, two of which were gathering nest materials, and taking them up to the old nest site under the neighbour's eaves.

Wednesday 3rd February 2016

Today I saw another two Long-tailed Tits in my garden, this time accompanied by a single Blue Tit. This is the first time I have seen them since the 2nd of January, and this is only the 2nd time I have seen them here.

Saturday 2nd January 2016

Today was very exciting, as I noted my first ever Long-tailed Tits, six of them, flying around the garden from shrub to shrub. I was very excited, but unfortunately I got no photos.
